“Travellers” move into Cheam Park

Just a heads up for readers in case you are not yet aware, but the “travellers” group that had wreaked havoc in Fairlands Park up in North Cheam last week, have now invaded Cheam Park and are sited on the Recreation Area.

As usual, authorities are playing “catch up” in terms of legal enforcement and it is hoped that they will depart later in the week.  We will keep you updated.

Major Gas Works Abbotts Road

SGN Gas UtilityNotification of major gas works: Abbotts Road, Sutton

As part of our community news service, we are pleased to prvide the following informaton received from SGN Network, to make you aware of our forthcoming upgrade of our gas network in Abbotts Road, Sutton. This essential work involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor KLT Construction will undertake this work on our behalf.

So that we can minimise disruption, we have carefully consulted and planned our works in close partnership with Sutton Borough Council. We have agreed to start our work on 5th February, and last approximately 8 weeks.

We will be working Monday to Friday between 7:30am and 4pm and as required Saturday between 9am and 2pm. We are mindful of those people who live in the area and will try to minimise noisy activities where possible.

Due to the location of our gas main and to ensure the safety of everyone around our work we need to make Abbotts Road one-way, westbound from St Dunstan’s Hill to Matlock Crescent with a signed diversion via Matlock Crescent and Church Hill Road.

The final stage of our work requires us to work at the junction of Matlock Crescent and Abbotts Road. We will need to install temporary multi-way traffic lights for this stage to ensure everyone’s safety and to keep traffic flowing.

Further information and updates can be found on our dedicated project page at:
https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Southern-projects/Sutton-Abbotts-Road/

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Sutton residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

I hope I have been able to reassure you of our commitment to deliver a safe project and keep you updated. If you have any further questions, please contact SGN.
